Newark Chiropractor :: Dr. Richard McKay

"I Thought All Chiropractors Were Quacks..."

Newark Chiropractor, Dr. Richard McKayWhen my younger brother told me he was going to become a Doctor of Chiropractic, I asked him. " Why do you want to be one of those quacks?" He asked me, "How do you know they are quacks?" my response, like most others was, "I don't know how I know, I just do!" But, because he was my brother , I read the information he sent to me ...and the more I read ...the more interested I became.

My Chiropractic Story...

At that time, our first son, Shane, was born and his feet were rotated in. The pediatrician said that we would have to put him in braces every night for 6 months to rotate his feet to the correct position... and there was no way I wanted to do that!

My brother recommended that I take my son to a local chiropractor, and as apprehensive as I was, he examined Shane, adjusted him several times over a period of a couple weeks, gave us exercises to do at home with Shane, and within a month his feet were normal.

The experience that solidified my opinion of chiropractic care was when I sprained my ankle severely. I had a history of ankle injuries left over from my college football days, and the normal course would have been two weeks of limping followed by four to six weeks before I felt I was back to normal functioning. I went to the same Chiropractor who adjusted me several times over the next couple of days, did the appropriate therapy, and within a week I was back to normal.

My wife and I then made plans to move and become a Chiropractor ...and I have never regretted that decision!

Chiropractic Education

I attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, and graduated in June of 1986. Prior to this degree, I had acquired a Bachelors of Science in Education from University of North Dakota and a Masters of Arts from University of New Orleans. After graduating from Palmer, we moved to Delaware, and have been practicing at the same location ever since.

I am currently enrolled in a post-graduate Functional Medicine Diagnostic Training Program that is made up of DCs, MDs, Dos etc. that will advance our office’s ability to successfully handle more complex, chronic cases in a more rapid fashion.

Outside the office

Newark Chiropractor | Dr. Richard McKay

Outside of the office, my time is spent reading, writing, traveling, practicing yoga, working out and learning classical guitar. I follow a regular exercise routine at the Hockessin Athletic Club, working out with a great group of friends, and also teach a class there in Advanced Conditioning... Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Come on out!

I have three sons pursuing their talents and careers, as well. My oldest son Shane is getting ready to start his 4 year residency in Psychiatry in Austin, Texas. My middle son Travis is in Atlanta, finishing his 1st year at Life Chiropractic University, and will hopefully join me in practice when he graduates, and my youngest son, Colin, will be starting a Master’s/PHD program in the fall.

I am especially pleased and fortunate that my sons have chosen to enter professions where they will be of service to others. As much time as possible is spent enjoying their company and the company of good friends, and of course my two dogs, Noel and Leon, and Spot "the wonder cat".

Chiropractors need Chiropractic care too!

I have been under consistent chiropractic care for twenty-five years, and have enjoyed the benefits immensely. I also keep up a rigorous workout schedule of yoga and core exercises designed to bulletproof my spine. I am adjusted on average once every ten days, and maintain a healthy diet supplemented with vitamins and minerals. This lifestyle has allowed me to enjoy optimal health and all its benefits.

Enough about me! How can we help you with today’s safe and natural chiropractic care? Give us a call today, (302) 368-1300, to take your first step towards a pain-free and healthy lifestyle. Hope to hear from you soon, and I look forward to meeting you personally.

Sincerely,
Dr. Richard C. McKay
