Frequently Asked Questions
Like other Newark chiropractors, we hear many questions from new and current chiropractic patients. Here are some of the most common questions and answers…
Will getting adjusted hurt?
Absolutely not! The worst side effect that most people experience is some muscle soreness in the days following their first adjustments. This is generally comparable to soreness after a tough workout session. Usually this dissipates by the end of the first week of care.
Do I have to get my neck adjusted? I’m scared to get it ‘cracked’!
This is actually a really common fear that we see in our office, and one that is completely unfounded! Chiropractic has consistently been proven to be one of the safest and most effective therapies available and the rate of any negative side effects of a neck adjustment has been estimated to be around 1 in 1,000,000 to 1 in 5,000,000! However, for our patients that either have a condition that prevents manual neck adjustments, or would just prefer not to have it, we have other means of treating the neck using low force instrumentation that doesn’t produce any of the same popping noises.
How long will this take?
Everyone is different so that’s hard to say; however, based on the doctor’s recommendations, we believe the more aggressive and frequent you treat during the beginning of your chiropractic care, the better and faster your results will be.
What will this cost me?
At Advanced Back & Neck Pain Center we’ll verify your health insurance and go over your coverage on your second visit. If you don’t have health insurance, we’ll sit down and work out a financial plan for you and your family.
Why do I need to do exercises?
After your first phase of chiropractic treatment, we introduce therapeutic exercises to strengthen the muscles around the correct spinal alignment so your body can hold chiropractic adjustments for longer periods of time.
How young or old does a patient have to be to benefit from chiropractic adjustments?
The only requirement is birth …one of the most traumatic experiences in our lives is being born. Chiropractic adjustments are very beneficial for many childhood issues, which includes helping to keep children in proper alignment to avoid scoliosis. On the flip side, there are no restrictions on how old you can be. We use more gentle techniques on our younger and older patients whenever it’s necessary.
Can pregnant women be adjusted?
Absolutely! Actually, chiropractic adjustments for pregnant women are quite beneficial. Pregnant women can suffer from a number of ailments that are easily corrected with chiropractic adjustments, such as heartburn, sciatica, pain in extremities, etc. … then there’s the shift of their spinal alignment due to weight distribution and changes in their pelvic region. In fact, studies have shown women who regularly get adjusted throughout their pregnancy have an easier labor and a quicker recovery time.
